I’m slowly catching up with my Project Life album, simultaneously doing 2015 and backtracking 2014. It dawned on me that among the crafts I do, it’s scrapbooking that my children love the most simply because it’s about them — it’s their stories. Sewing? They can’t wear the clothes I sew. Painting? Art is very personal. Baking/Cooking… they get consumed. Gardening… I’m raising boys. But their physical albums… I caught my kids more than a few times looking over them again and again. Sure I got this blog and Facebook posts, but it’s the actual scrapbooks that they can touch, feel and look at. I’m back to printing photos and not maintaining them just as jpeg files. I have thousands of digital pictures in hard drives and CDs, but as technology advances they could soon be in unsupported formats. Think betamax, VHS, floppy disk… ugh, awful! Their scrapbooks are something I can actually leave for their enjoyment… just as I still enjoy looking over the yellowed albums that my mom kept for us.
