For today
A glimpse through my window… the weather is perfect — clear skies with a cool 20ºC breeze. The grass outside could use a trim, but a fertilizer treatment was applied yesterday so I am holding off for 48 hours as recommended. My main garden bed is flourishing, filled with vibrant flowers, overgrown as it is, but the bees are happy. In contrast, my potted plants on the deck are dried out and neglected. The trees are also showing their first hints of autumn, with colors just beginning to change.

Sounds around me… Outside, an airplane just passed by. That’s what you get when you live five minutes from the airport and on the direct flight path. Inside, Raf’s piano music fills the house, adding a calming backdrop.

In the kitchen… A few pieces of soft, pillowy cheese rolls that I made yesterday. The secret is tanzhong. They are incredible when toasted, promise!

I am wearing… Today’s outfit is a me-made linen lime green top (Scout Tee pattern) paired with forest green shorts from Uniqlo, a hand-me-down from Ate. I feel like I’m blending right in with my overgrown plants.
Around the house… Things are semi-organized at the moment. I pulled out my sewing stuff after tucking them away while we had house guests, but I haven’t started any projects yet. The table is piled with meters of fabrics and patterns, just waiting for my sewing mojo to come back.

Simple pleasures… Ink pads from Japan. There’s something so satisfying about working with them.
On my craft desk… My travel journal from our recent trip to Victoria-Vancouver is front and center. I’ll be sharing that adventure in an upcoming post.

Health news… Gabby’s recent diagnosis of diabetes hit us hard. It was unexpected and came as a complete surprise. He just turned 22 this week. He didn’t have any symptoms; he isn’t your typical diabetes candidate given his age, height, weight and activities. This was discovered when his blood test results for a general check up came back. Now, he’s on Metformin and monitors his sugar level several times a day. I feel heartbroken for him.

The boys… Riel continues to enjoy his regular golf sessions twice a week, although his Thursday group will be wrapping up the season next week. Raf has a great balance of work, school, hobbies. He loves reading during his spare time. He recently finished Elon Musk by Isaac Walterson, and now reading the Steve Jobs book, also of the same author. Raf is a good conversationalist, like his dad. He can talk about anything under the sun, like his dad. He has many hobbies and interest, and that reminds me of myself. Marco, studying Life Sciences in McGill’s honor program, recently had a surprise birthday celebration organized by his lab group. That was such a sweet gesture considering that semester has just started. Gabby is taking his diagnosis in stride, reading up about diabetes management. He did ask me why these things happen to him. Aside from diabetes, he developed chronic uveitis two years ago, an autoimmune eye disease that has to be treated lifetime. I wish I had an answer.
Praying… for miracles, for everybody’s health and safety… and for the smooth conclusion of a farmland deal my sister is working on.
Some photos to share…
