First Day

We woke up this morning and saw snow on the ground!

We have real snow!  First day today, not like the light snow dust we had in October.  It’s pretty out there.   We were like crazy first timers, jumping on the sight of the white carpet of snow.  We’ve been waiting anxiously for this.

The kids enjoyed walking this morning to their bus stop, wearing their winter gear and boots.
Live Christmas Tree.
A pretty sight.

—————-

We’ve been house hunting since July and had seen more than a dozen already.  Initially, we were partial to townhouse/apartment/condo-type homes so it’s easier to manage and clean.  But a detached house with a basement and a backyard will allow the boys ample space to move around, jump, and make noises without bothering the neighbors.  We owe it to the kids.  We don’t want to stifle them.  We want the kids to be kids.

We’ve found the dream house.  And our offer has been accepted, but the sale isn’t final until all conditions are met.  It isn’t a done deal yet so I’m keeping my mouth shut.  But hear this: I’m itching to tell you all about it and show you around.  The excitement is killing me… big time!

The idea of snow in the backyard and the boys building snow fortress and running around excites all of us.  In fact, we got something for the boys in anticipation of this.

Nerf guns that shoot foam bullets.
They’ve been practice shooting since Wednesday.
They want to be good at it.
They’re having fun.

And when the kids get really naughty:

They point at me!  I flee to safety… I dunk under the table or behind the chair.  That’s how much they respect me.
Of course the Dad got his own gun, too.   Told you I’m raising four boys.

But the Dad can’t point the gun at me.  I warned him: “Be afraid, be very afraid.”  (Name that movie.)

Meantime, I found this in the kids’ bedroom:

Ooooh…. juicy!  Wonder what’s written there?

“Now is my first time to have a journal… but I won’t be like dear diary this and dear diary that.”  He’s obviously influenced by the cartoon novel that he’s reading right now.

On the succeeding page… I’ll spare you the details except this one:  “it’s  mom’s idea, not mine.”  The kid is already blaming me for something!
And he made fun of me!  That’s how close we are. His entry is in reference to this.
