Days before my Manila trip, we biked several times altogether as a family. We’d get up very early in the morning, dress up, fix our bikes, and head to the local coffee shop for a sausage-and-cheese-english-muffin-and-hash-brown breakfast combo.
Grammy took the above photo from their bedroom window as we prepared for our morning ride. This is our usual formation. Riel leads to set the direction, followed by Marco, Raf, and Gabby, then lastly me.My role is to check if the boys maintain the line and speed.
Sometimes Riel goes very fast, other times Gabby slows down and lags in the line. There are also times when the boys veer towards the middle of the road. In such cases, I use my “kring-kring” bike bell to signal the boys to slow down a bit or to remind them to stay on the side.
This is our local coffee shop, about 5km from our place. We chain our bikes and have breakfast at the café.
On the way home, we passed by a couple of playgrounds.
Our family, represented by our bikes. The boys love the swing. And I love the swing too.Across the playground is another park near the lake. There’s a big empty parking lot where the boys love to bike in circles. There’s also a dock where the boys feed the birds with their leftover breakfast food. The ducks love the hash brown.Back from the morning ride.Sometimes, we would bike late in the afternoon.Since there are more cars on the road in the afternoons, we go only to the park near us, at the corner of our street. Grampy joining the boys after his afternoon walk. The boys love to hear stories from Grampy. In here, Grampy recounts the stories of Riel’s biking escapades when he was a kid. Daddy adjusting Gabby’s seat up “because he grew taller”.It’s a smaller park but it’s lovely. They bike and they run around.People go there to read……to have picnics (and do other things)…
…to swim…
…to watch the ducks…...to kayak……or to throw stones in the water…
…or just listen to the gentle sound of the waves.
My beautiful bike. That wicker basket holds my camera, emergency medicine kit, extra bottled water, and wind breaker.
